As required by our local diocesan law, "each parish within the Diocese of Baton Rouge is to have a parochial Pastoral Council. Its composition is left entirely to the discretion of the pastor. In accord with the universal law, the pastor is to preside over the Council, although this does not necessarily mean he must chair its meetings."
Further, "in accord with universal canon law, the parochial Pastoral Council serves the pastor in a consultative manner only. The pastor is the only legal representative of the parish." (Cf. Code of Canon Law 536, §2 and 532)The composition and constitution of the parochial Finance Council mandated by the universal law (Canon 537 and 1280) is left to the discretion of the pastor, with the following exceptions:
